Cut felt

Felt is a soft, flat material. It consists of disordered short fibres. They are pressed together with high steam pressure. The fibres interlock so strongly that the tissue does not fall apart again. What is particularly interesting about the felt is the missing thread. Damage to the structure does not lead to progressive fraying.

In comparison, cutting felt with a laser machine is much easier than with scissors or a cutter knife.

Cutting felt by hand is harder than it looks. Before the manual cut with scissors or a cutter knife, the contour must be drawn on the felt strip. With the paper cut, the strip is guided by hand. The problem with this is that the contour can only be viewed over a short distance. When cutting with the cutter knife, the strip is placed on a hard surface. When cutting, however, the fabric is constantly being distorted. This can lower the quality of the result. With felt laser cutting, the strip lies loosely on a base. The recorded contour is cut out as planned by the felt laser.

Synthetic fibre felt is easier to laser than natural felt. Please make sure that you do not process any synthetic fibres that contain chlorine or chloride. Toxic fumes can be produced. You can read everything about the materials for lasering in our knowledge database.
