THE ART OF FILMMAKING
Do you think a good movie is only possible with Hollywood stars and a lot of action? Not with Studio Flox! Here, elaborate detailed work brings to life stage worlds and characters out of paper, wood or felt using devices like Mr Beam II. Their visual stories cast spell over the viewer.
Sometimes there is a need of something special. Something that stands out from the ordinary. Something that stays in mind and makes you wonder. Something like movies of the Studio Flox, that focus on the images created in an extraordinary way. "We mostly work with a stop-motion animation. Creating specially designed objects out of different materials, moving them millimeter by millimeter to photograph every motion. This process is repeated from 500 up to 5,000 times."
During his studies, the studio founder Maximilian Zenk, stumbled upon this extraordinary art of analogue moving pictures. And stayed with it. "There are countless individual decisions, all of which gradually become one final movie. What connects us with our customers is the desire to do something special, create charm, wit and originality."

"An easy and safe operation gives us a high incentive to get creative. Now we have the freedom we didn’t have before, withall saving us a lot of time"
Driven by fascination, this way of filmmaking today is his signature style. Studio Flox produces advertising and corporate videos using this elaborate technology. They also create their own entertainment material in the form of short movies and serial formats. In short: unique, moving, eye-catching. "You stop and watch immediately as you see something different. Of course, it is very interesting for our customers from a marketing perspective." The creator of countless "analog movie characters" made of materials like wood, paper or metal is convinced, that there lies a special magic in his work. "The magic is that something lifeless becomes a living being. Whether a paper shred, piece of fruit or a complex, built character. Stop-motion brings life into things. "
At the actual production Maximilian and his team depend not solely on creativity, but also on a high attention to details. This is when the most recent technology and devices come in handy. In addition to a small CNC milling machine, a vacuum forming machine and a cutting plotter, the Mr Beam II helps to breath in life and shape into the stage design and characters.
The laser cutter brings multiple benefits to the studio operator: a lot of work can be done quickly in-house with no outsourcing. Now the flexible trial runs and experiments with materials and shapes are possible with the Mr Beam II. This has consequences. And those are very positive in the first place. "An easy and safe operation gives us a high incentive to get creative. Now we have the freedom we didn’t have before, withall saving us a lot of time " An additional advantage for his financial calculations is the relatively low price. "There are two clear trends nowadays: things have to be faster and cheaper in production. Quality shouldn’t suffer though."
Stop-motion is exactly about the opposite, it is a slow and time-consuming process which is changing with the new technologies. Devices like laser cutter effectively speed up specific processes and tasks, saving quality and aesthetics. “Technology is a useful means to express ideas and thoughts. Even though technical progress is always fascinating - in the end it is creative ideas and content that helps to connect with the viewer."
Content that is different. Just unique.
